Business Investment

Business leaders choose the Annapolis Valley Digby Region for their business and their families.
Our business leaders may be involved in extracting neutraceutical properties from seaweed, manufacturing advanced composites, exploring alternative energy applications, designing medical software, providing services for corporate retreats and training, or reinventing an old industry. They all have one thing in common: they appreciate the balance of success and lifestyle.

Four Hundred Years of Business Experience
Four centuries ago explorers and colonists saw opportunity in the Western Valley. In 1604, Pierre DuGua de Monts and Samuel de Champlain traveled to Île-Ste-Croix from France to establish a fur trading post at l’Acadie. In 1605, at Port Royal, they successfully built an alliance with the Mi’kmaq people in an early international trading relationship. By 1615 they had laid the foundation of the famous Annapolis Valley apple industry.

An export fishery rapidly developed as well as a shipbuilding industry. Many of the region’s entrepreneurs became seafaring traders that carried the region’s goods to markets around the world.

We’ve been trading with the U.S., European, and Caribbean markets ever since, and we continue to build on this tradition. In fact, as a result of new technology, we are experiencing an economic renaissance, returning to an export mindset, networked decision making, and a commitment to sustainable development.
